Speculative office complex wins statewide AIA award for “forward-thinking design.”

 

The Airport Plaza Office Complex is comprised of four building located in the heart of Destin, Florida. Designed as speculative space, particular attention was paid to the siting as well as the method of construction to achieve an attractive complex with an eye to the budget. Today the offices are a vibrant collection of attorneys, financial consultants, architects, engineers, and developers.   One of the buildings serves as the Destin headquarters for DAG Architects.

 

Awarded a statewide honor awards for excellence in design from the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects, the architectural jury commented that “. . . this project shows a unique approach to the speculative building type . . . the architects should be commended for this forward thinking design.”

 

The structure is a pre-engineered metal building with standing seam metal roof, corrugated metal and stucco siding.  The nautical-inspired buildings are fenestrated with extruded aluminum louvers, aluminum walkway canopies, and anodized aluminum storefronts.  The four buildings form a U shape, with a natural growth courtyard in the center that all share.
