Coastal Mixed Use Master Plan - DAG is part of a team of developers, hotel experts, landscape designers, and engineers involved in the master planning and design guidelines for a world-class residential and guest resort located on the last available beach property in Destin, Florida. Currently planned for the community are 461 residential units and a hotel, with associated amenities, retail space, and parking. The Florida Mediterranean Revival style recalls the romanticism of Old World Florida resort community architecture, and its charm is found in its intimate relationship to its surroundings, the play between light and shadow, and the dynamic massing of the architecture around courtyards and lush gardens. A pattern book to guide development has been created, illustrating what specific locations are planned to look like, and what feelings will be evoked by each. FAMU New 800-Bed Dormitory - DAG has recently been selected, as part of a design-build team, to design new dormitory facilities at Florida A & M University. The facility is intended to create a new campus gateway and promote positive patterns for future campus development. Based on a mixed use model, the design includes approximately 800 beds, several community rooms on each floor, and provides university use spaces at ground level. Besides the spaces contained within the buildings, the buildings themselves shape a series of courtyard spaces culminating in a central plaza envisioned to become a hub of campus activities. These exterior spaces coupled with a large green space behind the dormitory provide great opportunities for student interaction and campus events. Several existing dormitory buildings on campus will be renovated as part of this same project

GCCC Health Sciences Building - This three story building, originally built in 1982, will be completely renovated and expanded to house the growing health science programs of Gulf Coast Community College. During an extensive programming phase, the affected departments and program personnel were involved in interviews and meetings to assist in planning their new facilities. Programs included in the facility are Dental, Nursing, EMS, Respiratory Therapy, Radiography, Surgical Technology, Physical Therapy, and Sonography. Aesthetically, the building will be designed to project a new state-of-the-art image, to assist in attracting new students and in keeping with its prominent position as the gateway to the campus. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2007.

Sacred Heart on the Gulf - This new 20-bed Gulf County Hospital for Sacred Heart Health System is currently under construction in Port St. Joe, and will serve the growing population of the surrounding area.  Included in the 50,000 SF hospital and outpatient facility will be emergency services, surgery and radiology suites, nursing units, a women's center, pharmacy, labs, and administrative and support spaces.

Chipola College Arts Center - DAG was selected, as part of a design-build team, to design the new Center for the Arts at Chipola College. The facility is intended to be a state-of-the-art complex, meeting the educational and performance needs of the college and the community. It will include a 650-seat performance theater, a 150-seat experimental theater, a fine arts instructional suite for music, dance, and visual arts programs, and administrative spaces. Planned to be built in three phases, the Chipola Center for the Arts will become the new “front door” of the campus. The differing acoustical requirements for performance spaces, rehearsal spaces, and instructional spaces will be a key factor in the design, as will sustainability and LEED certification.

FAMU Gore Education Complex - DAG is directing the extensive renovation and remodeling effort to update the historic 71,366 SF Gore Education Complex facilities at Florida A & M University. Improvements to the three building complex will correct life safety, accessibility, and security deficiencies, upgrade the classrooms, labs and teaching spaces with state-of-the-art technology and equipment, and replace the roofs, and the plumbing, air conditioning, and electrical systems. In addition, the defunct Teaching Pool at the Gaither Athletic Campus will be completely refurbished. Special attention will be paid to planning how the buildings of the Gore Complex will interrelate to other buildings in the FAMU National Historic District, and to the creation of special pedestrian corridors and landscaped student gathering spaces.

NatureWalk Welcome Center - This “welcome center” to a new environmentally-conscious planned community emerges from the majestic state forest that surrounds it, and serves as a symbol of and gateway to the community itself. A mullioned glass stair tower rises on the north side, and plays a civic role of marking the entry to the development and the coastal area to the south. Reflected in its surrounding pond, this building embodies the spirit of the development – in harmony with its inspiring natural environment and respectful of its position as the hallmark of this innovative ecological development. The architecture of the sales center is evocative of the vernacular Florida “cracker” style, characterized by metal roofs with large overhangs, wood siding, gracious porches, and double-hung windows. The nature theme is evident in everything from the custom-designed site lighting to the use of wood construction materials.

GCCC / Bay County EOC - This joint-use facility will be shared by both Bay County and Gulf Coast Community College, with 50,000 SF of space which can be used interchangeably. Smart classrooms, computer labs, offices, storage, and workrooms will be used by the college to train emergency personnel, and Bay County’s Emergency Management personnel will have offices there. During a disaster or major storm event, the entire hardened building will be turned over to the County to operate as their emergency operations center. Among the facilities provided for emergency and training use are a command center, a 911 dispatch area, a Homeland Security Office, and a press room. A food service area, lounges, wellness center, locker room and showers, parking and a helipad are also part of the complex.

Bishops Landing - A master development plan has been prepared for a senior living community on a 53 acre site in Crestview. Overall, 504 units are planned, with the first phase being a three-story Congregate Care Building with a mixture of 83 assisted living units, 24 Alzheimer units, and 84 independent living units. Future buildings will include 40 duplex villa units, 147 Age-Restricted units in three buildings, a 60-bed Skilled Nursing Facility, and a clubhouse. A variety of parks, outdoor activity areas, pools, pavilions, and other amenities will be included for the residents of Bishop Landing.

Apalachee Elementary School - DAG has been involved in several improvement projects at Apalachee Elementary School. First, a major site redesign is adding a new cafetorium and simplifying parent and bus ingress and egress routes. The 15,000 SF cafetorium addition includes a stage, dining hall, kitchen and outdoor dining area. Three new intermediate classrooms are also being added for class size reduction purposes. Second, work at the school’s Building One includes design of a new entryway featuring a stylized “loom” to reflect the school’s new identity as the Apalachee Tapestry Magnet School of the Arts. DAG is also renovating the primary and intermediate wings, remodeling the existing administrative area and media center, and adding a multipurpose music area, a primary classroom, and an intermediate classroom.

Woodlawn Beach Middle School - This 21,500 SF 12-classroom addition to the school includes standard middle school classrooms, ESE classrooms and supplemental instruction spaces, an ESE vocational classroom,  a technology lab, teacher planning and support spaces for the building.  One of the client’s priorities throughout the design was to allow for future expansion with minimal disruption of school activities. Careful planning was required to deal with site restrictions on the property, including extensive wetlands, drainage issues, and sandy soil.

Emerald Coast Technology MP - DAG worked with the Economic Development Council (EDC) of Okaloosa County on a master plan for this office campus, which will include 3 million square feet of space for several universities, Eglin Air Force Base, and defense contractors. Arranged around a greenscape plaza with distinctive water features, the complex is planned to incorporate office and research buildings, educational buildings, condominiums, a hotel and convention center, restaurants and retail space, and a day care center to support the office workers.

Destin YMCA - The first phase of this complex has recently been completed, and includes a portion of the planned administration building, the main locker rooms and bathrooms, pool structures, pool equipment building, covered bleachers, and fitness center. Also planned are a chapel, a team room and therapy suite, nursery, indoor racquet courts, and a basketball court with connected theatre stage and concession area. Fundraising for subsequent phases is underway.

DMS Capital Center Complex - DAG and the Jacksonville architectural firm Rolland, DelValle, Bradley are collaborating on this three building office complex being designed for the Florida Department of Revenue in Tallahassee. Two five-story buildings of 200,000 SF each and an 80,000 SF, two-story building will be constructed, and all are planned to be LEED Gold certified. DAG will produce the design and construction documents for the two story building, which will be the department’s call center, and will also conduct the on-site reviews for all three buildings during construction.

Freedom Walk - Working with a private developer, DAG developed a master plan for a community that would cater to the military and armed services men and women who are stationed at nearby Eglin Air Force Base and Duke Field. The program focuses on a traditional neighborhood design that will include retail components, multifamily housing, and a YMCA. A system of sidewalks and trails links the community to a middle school and a high school, a connection vital to the development’s success with families. Pocket parks, strategically located throughout the development, will also contribute to the sense of community and neighborhood.

Legendary Boat Owners Club - An existing structure was renovated and significantly expanded on this marina property adjacent to the Mid-Bay Bridge in Destin. The facility includes a new ship’s store, dining room and kitchen, a fitness and locker area, and a marina bar and lounge. A central porte-cochere leads to an outdoor area featuring an infinity-edge pool, cabanas, children’s play area and a pool bar overlooking the Choctawhatchee Bay.

Lincoln High School - DAG has been involved in a series of renovation, remodeling, and new construction projects at Lincoln High School over the past several years. The existing administrative area, band classroom, computer labs, the “Trojan Tots” daycare area, locker rooms, and media center were completely remodeled; a new plaza entry, sign, gate and statue now welcome students and visitors to the campus, and improvements were made to an outdoor dining area, the bus ramp, and covered walkways. A new 15,000 SF cafeteria building was added, with an attached culinary arts classroom suite. A small, freestanding JROTC building and a 20,000 SF classroom building with training space for the Athletics Department are also being designed. Throughout the school, upgrades have been made to meet current building codes and ADA standards, as well as to enhance hurricane protection.

Crystal Beach Fire Station - The second of two facilities built simultaneously for the Destin Fire Control District, this 4,000 SF substation was designed to blend in with the “summer resort” style of its neighboring structures. Two fire bays, meeting room, kitchen, lockers, and bunkrooms are included. A 6,260 SF addition to the station has been recently completed. The bunk room was moved to the second level, and more room for fitness, beach safety equipment, vehicles and storage has been added. In addition, the kitchen was upgraded and the dining area expanded.

Callaway Public Safety Center - Before designing the final facility, DAG assisted this Bay County community in the preparation of an architectural feasibility report to demonstrate their need for a new fire station/public safety center and to assist them in qualifying for funding through the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities grant program. The new facility will consist of new engine bays for 3 trucks and 1 EMS vehicle, support facilities to house 3 shifts of firefighters, and public safety facilities with administrative space and a holding cell.

PJC Softball Complex - DAG is working on two projects at Pensacola Junior College, designed to allow the Women’s Softball Team to relocate to the main campus. Phase I will include improvements to the softball field, track lighting and site improvements. The old track and former archery range will be removed, the track will be reconfigured, and the site graded. Ballfield fencing , a masonry backstop wall, padding, posts and netting, a batting cage, and lighting will be added. The softball complex will be completed in Phase II, with construction of new dugouts that will also house locker rooms, concession, public restrooms, laundry and equipment storage. Other Phase II improvements will include bleachers and a press box, score board and sound system, and accessible sidewalks and access gates.

Blue Heron Beach Resort - The Blue Heron Beach Resort is planned to include four lakefront towers containing a total of 563 units, with one, two and three bedroom condominium units. Centrally located to Orlando’s theme parks, the development includes a sand beach, boat dock, two freshwater lagoon pools, exercise rooms, and covered parking.

Landmark Center - Located at the intersection of Miracle Strip Parkway and Perry Avenue in the historic district of downtown Fort Walton Beach, the new Landmark Center project will combine a variety of uses and create a unified streetscape. The ground level will have a lively mix of retail uses and restaurants, while upper levels will include offices, parking, and urban-style loft condominiums. Roof deck amenities for residents include cabanas, event pavilions, spa pools, grills, and green areas.

Bradley Memorial Hospital - This major medical facility (now the SkyRidge Medical Center) is comprised of two campuses and 351 licensed beds providing outstanding medical care with special programs in heart, women’s surgery, digestive care, senior services, behavioral health, emergency and trauma care. Their planning and design goals focused on providing an environment more conducive to comfort and healing through implementing hospitality-oriented elements throughout the hospital. A new atrium was designed by the project team that included registration areas, retail spaces and upscale dining areas. New hospital standards were designed and incorporated throughout the hospital in order to create a warm and welcoming palette to help soothe patients and their families. Graphic design, including extensive wayfinding systems and specialty signage was also a part of the comprehensive project scope and provides guidance and visual unity throughout the hospital. Done when the Atlanta office was known as Godwin Associates.

Billy Joe Rish Park - This 98 acre park, completely handicapped accessible, is administered through the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities and may only be used by residents with qualifying conditions. Miles of boardwalks and ramps connect dormitories and family cottages to many different recreational facilities. DAG is currently involved in a series of renovations and additions to the park, designed to improve the facilities. New cottages, gazebos, pool bathrooms, miniature golf course, tree fort, and other structures are included in the options being discussed.

WaterColor Fire Station - The 5,200 SF fire station in WaterColor blends in with the unique architectural style of this Gulf Coast community. DAG worked to meet the technical and budget requirements of the fire district, while at the same time meeting design objectives of the developers. The station includes a  firehouse, facilities for emergency medical services, and beach rescue services. The former fire chief, Leslie Hallman, commented, “Not only is it a beautiful building that blends well with the WaterColor look, but it has exceeded our expectations as an operational fire station. The response from the public has basically been ‘wow.’”

Hotel Viridian at Seagrove Beach - Located at the center of the Emerald Coast community in South Walton County, the Hotel Viridian will be the jewel at the center of a new downtown Seagrove development. Each of the hotel's 30 rooms and 10 villas will be available for purchase, as the Viridian is the area's first "condotel." The development will also include restaurants, a world-class spa, a Wellness Center, salon, and retail shops. Designed in collaboration with McWhorter Architects of Seagrove.

The Beach Club Condominiums - This four-tower complex is centered around a magnificent two-story Club House, all of which overlook the Gulf of Mexico. Each tower has its own pool and recreation area in addition to the large outdoor pool, indoor pool, spa, exercise room and gourmet dining room in the club. The project is set back from an area of natural vegetation, which softens the relationship between the towers and Fort Morgan Road.

Airport Plaza - This complex is comprised of four buildings located in the heart of Destin. Designed as speculative space, particular attention was paid to the siting, as well as the method of construction to achieve a cost effective facility. Today the offices are a vibrant collection of attorneys, financial consultants, architects, engineers and developers. This project received a Florida AIA Honor Award for Excellence in Design.

Seaside Lap Pool - The family pool at Seaside is nestled in the woods on the northern edge of town, and used by residents and guests as a lap pool. Completed nearly 15 years ago, the design is classic in its simplicity. The metal frame supports a polyethylene cover used in the wintertime to warm both the water and the air temperature, and becomes a design element of its own.

Destin Library - The City of Destin challenged DAG Architects to design a new library that would fit comfortably in a heavily wooded site filled with live oaks and reflect the fishing and boating heritage of the city. The resulting 13,500 SF facility addressed these issues while providing a comfortable, state-of-the-art structure where one can enjoy the site as well as the many features of the building.

Bella Vita Condominiums - Located at the highest spot on the Gulf Coast of Florida, the elevation goes from 65 feet to sea level across the six-acre site. Curved to allow a view of the water from all units, the design of the buildings themselves provides a picture perfect scene reminiscent of a Tuscan village. Centered on the 65-foot surveyor’s mark, the plaza slopes downward from a beautiful fountain, past a free form swimming pool to the white sands of the gulf beaches and then to the gulf itself.

Cassine Station - Cassine Station, in Walton County, Florida, is a mixed-use development incorporating retail, office and living units.

NatureWalk at Seagrove Beach - The architecture of this new master-planned coastal community is inspired by the indigenous "Cracker" style of historic Northwest Florida. Texture, scale, materials, and colors are representative of that tradition and the design vocabulary is simple and straightforward. Porches will provide leisurely outdoor living, while large overhangs, shutters, high ceilings, screened enclosures, and raised foundations allow for maximum cooling and natural ventilation. NatureWalk is located on 155 acres of forestland near Point Washington State Forest. Preservation and appreciation of the native uplands, wetlands, and green spaces, as well as protection of the local wildlife and vegetation, were overriding factors in all phases of the design and master plan.

GCCC Language Arts Building - The remodeling and renovation of the existing Language Arts Building will provide classrooms appropriate to today’s technology, as well as offices for instructors and staff. The existing building is to be gutted and the interior has been completely redesigned to meet the Language Arts Department requirements.

Beasley Park - To create a strong image for the community as well as an appropriate climatic response, the design of this recreational facility explores the Florida cracker dog-trot parti. This parti employs a breezeway, defined by two bathroom pavilions, as both an axial spine leading to the gulf beyond, and also as a vehicle to allow wind to pass through the structure for air circulation on hot days. By respecting the local climate and site conditions while utilizing a vernacular architectural theme the design provides an enjoyable and functional environment for beach-goers.

Seaside Modica Market - The Modica Market Building is the second building constructed on the main square at Seaside. It consists of The Modica Market, a market/deli run by the Modica family who moved their business from Birmingham, and the Community Meeting Room.

Mattie Kelly Arts Village - Centrally located in the heart of Destin, the Arts Village will create a place for both local residents and tourists to come together and celebrate all of the literary, visual and performing arts. The master plan for Phase I encompasses a festival lawn and stage, and a multipurpose building. A future phase will include an artists' village.

Beach Community Bank, Destin - A fast-food restaurant was renovated for use as the Destin branch of this expanding financial institution.

NatureWalk Gathering Place - The Gathering Place at NatureWalk, designed in the coastal vernacular style, will be a community and amenity center for the entire development. It will feature an aquatic center with three pools: an Olympic-sized lap pool, a child-safe wading pool, and a leisurely and relaxed graded pool. The clubhouse will include a fitness and wellness center, study and library. A gourmet sandwich shop, a media center, and a private conference room with adjacent catering kitchen will also be provided for the use of residents and their guests.

Pier 23 at Navarre - Pier 23 at Navarre, a five-story condominium building, has recently been completed near popular Navarre Beach along Santa Rosa Sound in northwest Florida. Twenty-three residences are included, all with three bedrooms and three baths. Outside, a boardwalk along the waterway, pool, and a future marina will maximize the residents' enjoyment of the beachfront resort community.

Pelican Isle Resort, Biloxi - Pelican Isle will consist of two multi-story towers, with retail and office uses on the lowest levels, and condominium units on floors 3 through 16. Pools, a wellness center, gardens, and parking structures will also be provided. Five three-story villa condominium units will also be added in a later phase. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2006.

O'Sullivan Creel Office Building - This new 25,000 square foot office building for the accounting firm O'Sullivan Creel is being built behind their existing offices along Highway 98 in Destin. Key features of the design will be the training facilities and the rooftop terraces with views of the Gulf of Mexico. Completion is scheduled for mid-2006.

Ship's Chandler Walkover - The Ship's Chandler Walkover and Docks was created to provide handicapped access to a new dock facility from a 30 foot high bluff overlooking Destin's harbor. The inspiration for the award-winning design is a deep sea fishing vessel. The towering lookout of a Hatteras is transformed into a circulation tower that frames the view of the harbor and the horizon of the Gulf of Mexico below.

Caretta Dunes - This new low-rise luxury condominium development will be built along 700 feet of beachfront land in the Crystal Beach area of Destin, Florida. Fronting the Gulf of Mexico, Caretta Dunes will feature 64 three- and four-bedroom units, a 1,400 sf swimming pool, beach side cabanas and promenade, and extensive landscaping. Designed in the coastal Florida vernacular style, the elevations are evocative of lighthouses and other marine structures. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2006.

South Walton Main Fire Station - With the staggering growth of the Gulf Coast, and especially the southern part of Walton County, the need for a modern, efficient fire station and administrative facility was imperative. The program called for a building to house a firehouse, an emergency medical services unit and the headquarters for the district

Southwood Recreation Center - A Tallahassee developer retained DAG Architects Inc. to design and provide construction administration for a new community center. The 3,000 square foot center includes a meeting room, catering kitchen, offices, pool and pool restrooms and covered decks. To be completed in 2003, this is one of several community centers designed by the firm.

Seaside Mixed Use Building - The Mixed Use Building is located at the west side of the main square at Seaside. It is a four story stell framed building with CMU bearing walls. There are four commercial spaces plus a lobby on the ground floor and office spaces and a health spa on the second floor. The seven living units are accessed from a courtyard on the third level and are two stories high. The interior are fully detailed with painted woodwork throughout. The five units on the east side have exterior shuttered balconies overlooking the square.

Pelican Isle Condominiums - This multi-family condominium complex located on Okaloosa Island along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico consists of 98 units on six stories rising above a ground level of parking. The 144,000 square foot complex has a distinctive architectural style reminiscent of South Beach Miami with amenities including a swimming pool, beachfront walks, and beach access walkovers.

NW FL State College Observatory - Located in a wooded area of the Okaloosa-Walton Community College campus, this observatory, which won an Unbuilt Design Award from Florida AIA, has energized an expanded astronomy department. The building was designed to provide students and visitors a sense of a satellite in orbit revolving about the vertical shaft of the telescope tower. To complete the journey to the reflecting telescope one ascends a spiraling staircase.

Okaloosa Island Public Safety - Okaloosa Island is one of a chain of barrier islands which separate the Gulf of Mexico from the mainland. The Public Safety Center was designed to house a firehouse, the headquarters of the district, an office for the county’s emergency management unit and a branch for the sheriff. The station was designed to withstand the force of hurricane winds and high tides expected of a facility that faces the Gulf.

Meigs Executive Park - This office park is comprised of four buildings which house offices for defense contractors working for Eglin AFB, as well as the Okaloosa County Sheriffs Office. Special security considerations were required, given the nature of work conducted by all firms in the complex. A serious effort was made to preserve an existing grove of coastal oak trees, considered an outstanding asset to the site.

Marbella Condominium - Nestled in an oak grove, overlooking the Destin Harbor, at the center of the community, Marbella will be a spectacular addition to both the waterfront and for those passing by on Highway 98. Nine floors of units above two below grade parking levels, this project will provide relief from so many of the less imaginative condominiums being designed along the Gulf Coast.

Harbor Landing Condominiums - Located along the southern shore of the Destin Harbor, with access to the Gulf of Mexico, this two-tower condominium includes a swimming pool, exercise rooms and marina. The balconies of the two towers face north and west to provide panoramic views of the fishing fleet and hundreds of private boats, large and small, coming and going to the Gulf of Mexico. At night the lights of the many restaurants and residences reflect in the quiet waters of the harbor.

Destin Main Fire Station - Completed in 1998, this 10,500 SF fire station was built for the growing Destin Fire Control District, which was in need of modern facilities to house a firehouse and the headquarters of their district. The Main Station, located on Airport Road in Destin’s industrial park, was designed and built under a design-build delivery scenario, using a Butler metal building system.

Destin Bank at Seagrove Beach - This beautiful branch bank located on Highway 30–A in Seagrove Beach lends a spirit and grace to this growing area of South Walton County. Designed to comfortably fit within the “Seaside Look,” this West Indies inspired exterior is juxtaposition with a formal interior with a business feel found in the more serious financial establishments. This is an example of a building that has stood the test of time, remaining as distinctive as the day the bank opened.

Crestview Library - The City of Crestview was asked to vacate their existing library building, which was to be used by Okaloosa Walton Community College. The new 15,000 square foot facility responds to the rural vernacular of the surrounding area. This brick and steel building was built for under $90.00 per square foot while similar libraries in the area cost $116.00 per square foot or more. Both the community and the City fathers were delighted with the results.
