Betty J. Pullum Family YMCA

Navarre, Florida
Navarre YMCA planned for eventual expansion
from the very beginning.

The YMCA in Navarre serves as a community center for this small city, and the wide range of programmatic elements led the design team to provide very flexible, multipurpose spaces that could be used for a variety of activities.  The YMCA  has programs for children, teenagers and adults, including basketball and volleyball, aerobics, ballet and karate classes, teen leadership development programs and summer day camps.  Included in the complex are an adult fitness area, a children’s play area, a multipurpose room, a “fitnasium,” locker rooms, and offices.  A special “Kids Watch” area makes it possible for the parents and young families to participate without having to find a sitter.

The building was also planned for future expansion – essentially allowing it to be doubled in size – with a specially-constructed gymnasium wall that can be removed in the future as the community grows and its needs expand.  Working with Russell Construction under a design-build contract, DAG was responsible for all phases of design and development of construction documents.
